Pros

It's clear company leadership is committed to making CannonDesign a great place to work. Since our new CEO took the helm last year, a number of new programs have launched solely focused on employee engagement (summer hours, remote working, bonus programs, etc.). Our previous CEO felt very disconnected from employees. Brad is the opposite - he's engaged, passionate and genuine in his belief that design can change the world. You also can't beat the industry recognition CannonDesign has amassed. Fast Company named our firm one of the 10 most innovative design firms in the world in 2017. And it's deserved. I've worked at a number of architecture firms over the years, and CannonDesign's talent can't be matched.

Cons

It's more of an industry challenge, but I'd like to see CannonDesign make some bold moves related to its commitment to diversity. We're making progress, but we could be doing more.

Pros

Interesting mix of project types, wide network of offices provides access to many resources and colleagues with valuable expertise.

Cons

Speaking in regard to the Boston office only, the office is poorly managed and there is persistent turnover. The office leader does not treat each design studio equally and there is no loyalty to staff from management. It is not uncommon to see longtime employees, like myself of 12 years, to be laid off without a second thought. Long hours with little to no compensating reward is the norm as well.

Thank you for leaving us feedback. It’s never easy reading negative reviews, but we appreciate you taking the time to share your personal experience. Our goal in every one of our offices is to become an extraordinary place to work for all employees. The experience you describe is not the norm at CannonDesign; we do employee engagement surveys every two years, and based on the results of this year’s survey in Boston, employee engagement improved by more than 18% since our last survey. Regardless, we take your comments very seriously and we’ve passed them along to firm leadership for their review. We wish you well in your future endeavors.

Thanks for this review! Happy to see you enjoyed your time with the firm. Our mentoring program is designed to help close the skills gap, but we realize we need to continually push to spread knowledge across teammates at all levels. Beyond our formal mentoring program, we’re always encouraging informal learning and mentoring on projects, and our social intranet (Jive) encourages teams across the firm to share lessons learned with colleagues. Thanks for contributing your talents to CannonDesign!
