Really appreciate you leaving us feedback. We’re extremely happy to hear that you enjoy our social atmosphere, but we’re bummed to hear you think it feels political at times. It’s difficult to respond to your comment without more context, but know that we work hard to ensure all employees have the ability to lead, advance and achieve their potential — without roadblocks. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to work with your supervisor to create a career development plan outlining your career aspirations. Also, know that you can always reach out to HR – completely confidentially – to discuss any issues related to the work environment. In regards to our firm’s vision/strategy, our vision is unwavering, but our strategy will always evolve in response to market dynamics and client needs. We go through business planning every year, and based on opportunities for growth, we often tweak some of the tactics in our strategy to ensure continuous evolution. With that said, your comment is well heard, and reminds us that we need to be better at communicating the reasoning behind all changes in our growth strategies. Again, thank you for leaving the feedback. And thanks for contributing your talents to CannonDesign!

Not too shabby, but not too exciting either

Pros

Good benefits, reasonable hours, good salary, nice people, transparency.

Cons

Some projects can be interesting but not all. You can get pigeon-holed into a role in a large company like this. National company but you wouldn't know it - offices don't interact or collaborate often.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us feedback. We’re glad to hear you’re happy with our work/life benefits and our approach to transparency. We’re always working to improve life for our employees, so keep the feedback coming! In regards to our projects, there will always be variation in scale and size; our firm is organized in a way that allows us to partner with clients regardless of what their challenge is. That means that sometimes our projects are monumental in impact, and other times they’re humble improvements to the current state. The level of collaboration is also typically tied to the difficulty and scale of the project; sometimes we have enough talent in one office to deliver a project entirely, while other times we need to harness the collective brainpower of our firm to collaboratively design the best solution (e.g. for the 3 million SF Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal, more than 180 designers worked together on the design). Regardless, collaboration is the bread and butter of our firm’s culture – whether it happens within a single office or across the firm. To your point about being pigeon holed, unfortunately, this is usually the result of someone being really good at what they do! If you feel you’re stuck in a bit of a rut, speak to your supervisor and let him/her know what your career aspirations are. We want you to be happy and successful in your role, and we’re committed to working with you to make sure that happens.
