CapTech really cares!

Pros

Having joined CapTech from one of the "big 5" firms, I cannot express enough how CapTech cares about it's employees. At my previous company you are just a number, a butt in a seat, and more often than not someone that has to deliver whatever their high-dollar salesmen have agreed to to win the work. At CapTech, we don't have the slick salesmen, we have strong and smart consultants who truly believe that top notch delivery will sell us; we 'put our money where our mouth is' and have our results prove it. Does that make it harder to sell work and grow accounts? Sometimes. But in the long run it builds a stronger foundation for client relationships- and that's what CapTech is all about. In addition, leadership cares. Do you think the CEO or anyone in senior leadership would join office check-ins at those other larger firms? Do you think they call people just to see how you're doing? No way! You're on your own... lose your client billibility and can't find a new project in two weeks? You're gone. At CapTech good people are our product. Growing and retaining that talent and always focusing on client delivery are the highest priority and it shows. Look sometimes client work sucks, and sometimes it's great, that's reality anywhere you work. But there's nobody I'd rather have by my side during the tough times than my fellow CapTechers. That's what makes CapTech such a great place.

Cons

CapTech is growing and that is an amazing thing, but sometimes as we strive to be so different from the "big 5" it feels like we also forget to remind our employees that we are a business too (especially those that have never been in consulting before). Everyone has to do work that isn't perfect and deal with challenging client situations, and it feels like sometimes that messaging gets lost in the goal of making people happy all the time.

Thank you for your review, and your years of commitment to CapTech. As you have noted, our leadership and fellow CapTechers are very focused on the people and it has shown brighter than ever in their personal responses during this COVID-19 crisis. Consulting is hard and complex. Agreed. Perhaps setting more realistic expectations of what that looks and feels like is something we should improve, of course also providing the balance of guidance and support on what to do during those times throughout the consulting career. Thank you for sharing your feedback. –Katy Apostolides, HR Director

Pros

This company is super young, so it's an amazing place to start a career! Between the benefits, the near constant happy hours, the generous PTO policy - most of the benefits are great for young professionals. If you join in their college new hire program, you are treated like royalty, which is pretty amazing. Leadership truly cares about making a great employee experience, and it shows in a number of the programs. Leadership truly buys into the core values. If you want a sense of what working at CapTech is like, look no further than their core values. You can generally work where you live, especially in the established offices on the east coast. There's a very positive company culture in general. People are generally happy to be there, and you're surrounded by lots of smart, talented people who are willing to help. There's also a great culture around PTO - you're strongly encouraged to take all your PTO.

Cons

CapTech is super reactive to whatever they happen to be able to sell. From my level it didn't appear to have any sort of strategy for growing or preparing consultants for skills that would be needed in the future because even leadership has no clue what they're going to sell. Company meetings are a joke - they're mostly silly videos of Principals because there wasn't any sort of strategy to go over. There's a strong culture of "internal work" - doing non-billable hours above and beyond your 40 hour work week to either gain new skills or contribute to the company. Expect to work more than 40 hours each week, though excessively long weeks are rare or voluntary. Because management is reactive, internal requests can be frustrating because demands change too quickly. This company is beginning to expect more travel and does not have the infrastructure in place to appropriately reward you for that. In the smaller offices (<100 people in the office), the culture is largely driven by the office lead, so the experience may be significantly different from the culture from the larger offices. Staff aug. This is probably the only topic that you can't get leadership to be realistic about. They continue to claim that they only sell staff aug in rare circumstances, but that's just not the case. Some of the staff aug that they sell is still high quality work! Knowing the right person is crucial to your success.

Pros

The leadership at CapTech truly cares about you. You have countless opportunities to better yourself.

Cons

Sometimes it's hard to balance your growth when working full time at the client. This is partly the nature of having a job where you spend most of your time with the clients and serving their needs.
