Stay away in case you want to advance in your career
Pros
- Good medical benefit - Competitive total rewards package - Helpful co workers - Irvine office infrastructure is good
Cons
- Your life here depends on your manager and how you impress the other managers. Your work and skill does not count much towards your career advancement. If you are one of those humble natured, hard worker who believes that your work excellence will be noticed and you will be promoted then this is not the place. It is how you butter up the management and beat your own drum everywhere to be noticed (does not matter whether you are just making a noise) - No matter how much of constructive feedback is provided about management, HR will always clear up the feedbacks and no impact happens to the managers. The management treats the associates as school kids and most instructions are top down. In the recent EDO restructure, associates are repositioned without any choice. The position selections are completely random - not matched to associate skills or preferences. Each Sr. manager picked up the folks they like to work with. You maybe thinking that this was a hasty decision? The EDO took about 18 months to be implemented and brought complete chaos. Talk about Management efficiency!!! - CG used to be a thoughtful company and believed in their core values. The recent management believes in hire and fire culture. During COVID, the associate strength has been increased by 2,400+ which is >25% of existing workforce!! Many associates were concerned about this sudden growth that has never happened in 90 years of the company history. We all knew the market will change to a bear market and it did. So now they are after layoffs. Many of us provided feedback regarding this shortsightedness - but of course - the CG HR team is standing there with their shield. - if you want to advance technically then this is not the place. Most technical decisions are made by Sr. managers with obsolete/backdated technical skills. They will not risk their reputation to try out new areas or let an associate lead these areas. - My advice - just keep quiet, do your work, get the 3% annual increment, 2 bonuses and just be the "yes" person for your managers. Praise your managers and it will do the trick.
