IT Employee Non Management

Pros

I've worked here over 10 years, the people are great as are the benefits. The business side is great to work with as are most IT people.

Cons

Micromanagement style over the past few years and getting worse. Many employees have left for this reason in IT. Constant outsourcing. I wouldn't be surprised if Infosys employed more IT people than Capital, and it's getting worse. Very very rare so hear about promotions. All IT manager positions are out side hires. Impossible to change teams unless management does ANOTHER useless re-org. Most long time employees have or are losing confidence in neurotic management changes.

Pros

Good retirement plan. Salaries aren't particularly competitive within the industry, but fine. Offices are attractive and comfortable. If you get a decent manager (although they don't last long), you can get some good, productive work done, with a minimum of drama.

Cons

Too many managers, with no real work to do. They get hooked on the latest fads they read about, and shove them down everyone's throat; none of which makes the work better, but merely fills time. The managers need to be given real work, not instructed to find busy work that interferes with the real work. During the recession of 2008-2009, the organization, which up to then boasted of loyalty to staff, laid off enormous swaths of people, some of whom had devoted the bulk of their working years to CG.

Pros

Initially very good pay and benefits. Solid management team at first. Highly trained and intelligent workforce.

Cons

Senior Manager under went some physical challenges and it dramatically changed his judgement and ability to lead. Took a very long time (5 to 8 years) for the business to address and made everyone's life miserable in the mean time. New management team came in and did what they always do - get rid of the current team and replace with cronies from their old jobs. Special bonus numbers were reneged upon for certain entire management levels but were communicated as individual performance problems. We learned about the special bonus being removed for an entire level of managers from other affected managers at the same level , not by our direct leaders. Benefit promises made pre-retirement were not kept. Health insurance numbers that they show you to plan your retirement immediately change as soon as you retire. Costs went up by 60% in two years while active employees were largely unaffected. I was told to expect this to continue for retirees (25-30% a year).
