Pros

Very good salary, retirement plan, bonus and benefits. Top notch co-workers. Beautiful facilities. A retirement plan that will not be found at 99% of other companies.

Cons

Little ability for advancement, despite what they will tell you when interviewing. Top heavy management. As an organization, slow to react and adapt to the changing marketplace. The CG culture and "core values" are emphasized relentlessly, despite spotty adherence by Senior Management. Happiness and success at this company will depend on what department you are in. Some departments and managers are great - like most companies it is a mixed bag. It has changed a lot (as would be expected) over the last 5 years, and still seems in search of a clear strategy and brand.

Management Overwhelmed

Pros

Benefits are great relative to base pay, fellow associates and managers are generally nice and easy to work with, and initial job training gets you ready for entry level positions

Cons

Inconsistent promotion process with mid-level managers having too much input and subjectivity. Business processes and platforms are out of date which make day to day responsibilities more difficult to complete. Workforce in various departments are well understaffed, creating a volatile environment management is not equipped to handle. Scheduling a vacation (months in advance) has become near impossible due to this staffing issue, and management does not intend to alleviate this pressure by hiring more people. They fear an eventual erosion in the fiduciary or directed custodian marketplace (with broker/dealers taking control of their accounts due to more stringent SOX regulation) will leave the business unit overstaffed which is understandable, but need to find more creative solutions in the meantime (such as sharing work with sister subsidiaries).
