Pros

* The job is really easy and flexible * Management treated employee with flexible and respect * The job was stable in terms of personal situations. Many people had the option to work from home * Overall, there are some bright people in the organization

Cons

* No one is really accountable for anything because of the organization's bureaucratic structure. There are alot of "freeloaders" * Some managers have a pretty bad attitude. Very hierarchical. Many directors' brilliance is shadowed my their arrogance. * No one is really responsible for their fault. It's easy to blame job to someone else.

Pros

It used to be a good place to work. It isn't anymore.

Cons

Clueless management. Letting a manager stay when she can't keep people on her team, averages 150% turnover, and abuses her employees. Upper management takes huge bonuses while severely limiting or freezing raises for the average employee and charging more and more for employee benefits. The Board of Directors rubber stamp whatever the CEO wants, they are asleep at the wheel.

Pros

There are great opportunities to learn new skills. If flexible and a go-getter, there are always great opportunities to get promoted. The company has typically done a great job in training employees on new skill sets. The company is going though a lot of change so new employees must be willing to cope with constant change and rework. If looking for a position in Owings Mills, a candidate would be more successful than at any other location. The overall benefits at CareFirst are excellent but the pay lags overall which means that highly skilled positions can freqently not be filled.

Cons

CareFirst is very bureaucratic and it can be a very frustrating environment especially for new employees. A lot of things get done despite the chaotic management approach and the constant change in direction. Executive management tends to be unfocused. They do not see things through when the process gets painful so buy in to new strategies are not accepted without a high degree of cynicism. Divisions are not collaborative and tend to work against each other. The DC and MD plans merged 10 year years ago but there is still a predominant us vs them attitude which can be a hindrance. Think twice about accepting a key position in DC since the company has been very ineffective in bringing together all the regional offices effectively.
