Underutilized and shown the door.

Pros

Carney has some impressive in-house technology, gadgets and gizmos. They have the capability to produce high quality software products in their offices.

Cons

Management invests in tech toys, not the employees. They also claim to be in touch with industry standards, while still developing antiquated products in a nice shiny wrapper. Contracts are not stable, to say the least. Highest turnover rate I have ever seen.

Very sad! Losing their best people! Need to take a look at company values.

Pros

Employees at Carney are talented, dedicated individuals willing to self start and excel in their work. Management does not allow for them to work as adults, only minions.

Cons

Employees have no faith in management or incentive to work hard. Too many employees who have given long hours and countless contributions have been shown the door or left on their own from under utilization. No trust in HR. HR has no knowledge of confidentiality rules when employees come with concerns. HR has open door with other director and shares all.

We did unfortunately have to reduce in size in the Fall of 2013 and we have been conservative in hiring in an attempt to avoid reductions in the future. There were wonderful people let go, all of whom made valuable contributions, and we truly hated letting them go and also losing others. Before the reduction, we worked very hard to keep people employed, many of them for over six months during which time they had no client (billable) work to do – this is something almost no other company does. This under utilization was not intentional, but an attempt to keep people employed while we exhausted all efforts to find work. Without doubt, HR has maintained confidence in accordance with any and all legal, ethical, or moral standards. When there are concerns, and with the employee's consent, HR does investigate and/or address issues. When the employee does not want the issue resolved or does not want an investigation, then that information goes nowhere. Even this employee can point out specific examples where employees had a complaint and HR was part of the successful resolution of the issue – all while maintaining complete confidentiality. However, it appears that for this employee we did not meet their expectations and I publicly apologize for that and commit to working very hard to earn this employee's, and all employees', trust and faith. We are not perfect, but we do aim to be an incredible employer. I hope that one day this employee is comfortable enough to bring this matter forward so we can actually resolve the issue. It is impossible to determine where we fell short without direct, constructive feedback. Until then, I recognize we have work to do and we will make working at Carney a valuable experience.

Pros

Work with very talented individuals Flexibility to work around appointments or needed time off

Cons

Really poor management over the last few years has left the company floundering, led to a round of layoffs late last year, and a steady, high turn over since then - the good talent here has mostly left or is leaving Company touts itself as tech-forward but management discourages telework in practice despite claiming not to and doesn't leverage existing technology because it would rather make its own in-house tools Almost no training infrastructure internally despite being a company that describes itself as a performance-enhancing expert; guess it's a case of the doctor's children Can't seem to streamline its production process to be more efficient and competitive

We have had management changes, but not unlike many firms. The current management team is poised to lead Carney in a very positive and successful direction. The positive momentum is obvious every single day. The team works collaboratively together and has a unified vision of where we are headed. We did unfortunately lose some employees, but our current employees are extremely talented - across the board. We are currently looking to add to our ranks. One of the areas where we are hiring is HR to specifically focus on employee development as this is an area where we want to excel. We do offer development opportunities, but employees are expected to play an active part in taking advantage of these opportunities. As for telework, we openly discourage it so there should be no confusion. We do have some teleworkers, but these are primarily people who have worked here for many years and due to personal reasons had to move away from the Northern Virginia area. In many cases where this happens, we do look to create a telework opportunity. In terms of local employees, we believe strongly that having people work in-person, side-by-side creates the best opportunity for us to create incredible value for our clients. As we begin to integrate video conferencing capabilities for each employee, expand our technology infrastructure, and pursue business opportunities outside of the Northern Virginia area, we will likely have more and more teleworkers in the future, but for now on-site people working closely together is important to what we are building. I encourage this person to provide this and other specific feedback to their manager or HR so we can make Carney an incredible place to work.
