The location I worked at was an awful working environment most of the time.

Serving the community, creative freedom, great support staff at the home office

Cons

Upper management have no clue what is really going on in the locations, under staffed, there are no reviews and getting one is like pulling teeth, standards are ridiculous, the CEO is known for being a "tough guy" and the intercompany letters he emails out are very aggressive and self serving.

Great benefits, complete autonomy for Managers.

Cons

Because of the complete autonomy and lack of involvement on the local level there is very little accountability. HR does not follow-up with the Managing Partners responsibilities to their employees. Employees have to request annual reviews and pay increases are based on their standards for each location. Translating to no increases if you aren't increasing your sales each year. Hard work and loyalty aren't rewarded. No visits from upper management. Managers do not need management experience and are not provided with training in the areas they are lacking.

Pros

I have never had an experience where I was given TOTAL autonomy. The leadership was left to ME! I was led by normal operation methods that a small business demands and unless I had a problem, I was left to handle the business. The support staff was unusually kind and if we were to partner in our succession plan, Carriage would be the OBVIOUS choice. I left with hesitation to build real estate equity but they could NOT have been more gracious!

Cons

I truly can’t think of any.
