Pros

Nice products, the employees are all very pleasant and fun to work with. The managers are also really good to work with. In general it is a hectic but fun environment.

Cons

A few glaring issues come to mind: For part time employees the company has inane "call in" shifts. Beyond your scheduled shifts two days of the week you are required to call in one hour before a shift to see if you are needed or not. On a few occasions I was told to call back in two-three hours to see if they would need me then. They effectively keep you on standby all day long. Poor scheduling management - more than once I was scheduled to close (11-12pm depending on clean up) then be back in store at 6am for inventory. Upon entering the store the morning manage would laugh and say "I bet you hate me". Taking breaks is frowned upon. On more than one occasion a manager would state "if you really think you need to" when an associate asked to take a 15 minute break. These breaks were scheduled on paper but were rarely given.

Pros

The only thing that makes Cartis tolerable at this point is it's work with the community.

Cons

There is no worklife balance. Upper management is rude and condescending. Upper management is demanding and uncompromising. HR is in support of upper management and does not listen to the staff. Carters is full of management who are undercutting and sneaky. Carters has a very bad culture due to upper management bringing their bad behavior from other companies.

Pros

The people are the greatest asset that the company has. Working for a company that is doing meaningful volunteer work and projects in the community is also rewarding.

Cons

The challenges are many. Low pay, no opportunity to advance and long hours are among the top struggles of working here. Also outdated systems and disorganization make work slow and tedious. As the company has shifted to a more corporate atmosphere, the employees that have been loyal have gotten lost in the shuffle.
