Pros

The mission behind Castle HR is meaningful. Startups do need better HR, and there was potential to build something helpful and lasting. • Some great people worked here. The team, at its best, cared deeply about the work and the clients. • Remote work and flexible hours made it easier to balance work and life. • The role gave me exposure to a variety of industries and fast-paced challenges, which helped me grow.

Cons

The CEO struggled to share control and trust the leadership team. • Decisions were often reactive and emotional, rather than thoughtful or strategic. • Feedback was not welcomed. Challenging ideas, even respectfully, often led to people being pushed out. • The full leadership team was eventually let go before they could leave on their own terms. • Contractors are underpaid and receive very little support or development. • There is a big gap between the company’s public values and how things feel internally. • Many people still working there seem disengaged and are just waiting for something better to come along.

Pros

The mission to be "Modern HR" for startups is exciting and meaningful. There’s potential to make a real impact. Smart and values-driven consultants who genuinely care about their clients and each other. Exposure to a wide variety of industries and fast-paced client work that keeps things interesting and helps you grow your skills quickly. Remote-first work environment with flexibility.

Cons

Leadership culture can be rigid and reactive. Despite the talk of psychological safety and modern HR, dissent or alternate opinions often aren’t well received. High turnover and unclear growth paths. Promises about development and career progression don’t always match reality. Over-reliance on outdated processes. Clients suffer because the company did not evolve it's processes and offerings to meet the new reality of Hybrid Work or the integration of AI and Work. Hard to separate values from branding. The internal culture doesn’t always reflect the progressive, people-first image presented externally.

Pros

The team is the best team I've ever worked with! We have a lot of fun and are constantly learning from each other. HR can be a lonely job - but at Castle I have a whole group I can turn to.

Cons

None - I am very happy with how the company operates, I love our clients, and I think everyone is working towards a common goal.
