Pros

They hire good/smart people who are generally hard working and capable.

Cons

The issue is that they do not manage effectively which creates an "every man for himself" environment while upper management focuses almost exclusively on cost cutting. This leads to a very unengaged work force with an underlying discontent. The employees who advance are typically the ones who do not question management and take on numerous roles which are often not related to the primary role they were hired for. If you are not buffered in some way from this (ie isolated in an autonomous department with a team culture) you will end up being overwhelmed and underpaid very quickly.
