Pros

Caterpillar is committed to the safety and well-being of their employees. They are also committed to delivering a quality product to their customers.

Cons

Caterpillar is a cyclical company. Their different businesses do not yet provide stability in soft markets. The company needs to make tough decisions in down markets, relative to their overall employment.

Pros

Global company, diverse work force, tremendous variety in work, great people with diverse backgrounds.

Cons

Lack of upward mobility without sponsorship from executive office. Tend to reward mid-career highers more than long term employees due to better exposure to executive office. Engineering talent is often overlooked for higher level opportunities. Limited upward mobility for technical people.

Pros

Job Security if you work hard and are recognized. Benefit were good but deteriorated after 2006. Good opportunities if your willing to travel abroad. Great coworker and people in general. Some upper managers are difficult to work with and communicate poorly. Had a great retirement plan but modified this in 2006. Medical, dental and prescription drug benefits are still good. These were best in the industry, but like all large companies CAT has reduced it's benefit package to now just average. Still a good large manufacturing company to work for.

Cons

The more you do the more work is loaded on you. Little recognition from upper management for a job well done. Too many SMART Goals and Corporate Goals keep changing. In some areas Quantity is emphasized over Quality.
