Pros

Having been with Celgard for over 20 years I can say there were a lot of pros. Pay was good, benefits were good, great people, rewarding work (at times) and I never felt micro-managed. I worked *for* a lot of good, honest people. But there were a lot of not so-good people. And I worked *with* a ton of great people and made good friends.

Cons

Celgard/Polypore has horrible decision makers at or near the top. Millions upon millions of dollars thrown at failing projects. That may be the cost of business, however, how many times does one project need to fail? And how many projects /products are sitting with no customers? They are literally busting at the seams with middle management that serve no purpose. (none of which were laid off with the rest of us.) A few years ago a previous CEO screwed Celgard employees over by essentially telling a lot of customers to pound sand and the company has floundered ever since with multiple lay offs. Celgard use to be a great job. I loved it. They were good to me. I would highly recommend. But it's changed, and it's not good. -signed, ex bitter employee.

Company operates by managers, not leaders

Pros

They have excellent medical benefits. They are the only company that offers cancer insurance.

Cons

1. Starts with over hiring, than reduction in hours, and finally laying off of hourly employees due to work instability. 2. They tend to layoff hourly workforce before salary management. 3. Employee engagement is nonexistence 4. Management secrecy on company performance. Communication tends to be through the rumor mill 5. Workload is really busy or really dead. 6. Management practice is very old school. Asking for employee feedback is more of formality then culture 7. Your opinion only matters if you’re at the leadership level 8. Very high turnovers of hourly and salary employees 9. They reprimand people for making mistakes, not use it as a learning opportunity (Edison made 9,999 mistakes before his 10,000th try of inventing the light bulb). He would have been terminated at Celgard. 10. Lack of team collaboration and managements definition of team is dictating directions. Overall, NOT a pleasant working environment and other reviews mimic this point. If you are seeking a stable work environment that provides career/financial growth, employee engagement culture, and view as an asset to the company, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
