Pros

Great benefits, hybrid schedule, beautiful facility and resource groups.

Cons

It's disheartening to see how much things have changed for the worse. What was once a thriving environment of growth and development has become a place where learning seems to be discouraged. Development used to be at the core of our culture, with opportunities to grow and innovate. However, over the years, that focus has disappeared. Now, rather than being encouraged to develop our skills, we're expected to learn through mistakes and reprimands. The atmosphere has shifted from one of support and collaboration to one where fear of failure dominates. It feels like the company has lost its way, and the values that once made it great have been pushed aside. It's painful to see a place I once loved working at lose sight of what made it special. If you're looking for a company that fosters development and growth, unfortunately, this is no longer the place for it.

Not the place for me

Pros

Most of the people were great, the office is beautiful and in a great location, the technology and assets are fantastic and are ripe for continued innovation. Truly wish the org all the best as there is so much potential there despite my gripes.

Cons

Despite internal and external PR that communicates otherwise and a gorgeous and progressive looking office space, the culture felt like a 1960s-level set back and was nothing like I've experienced in my career. Lacking real systematic appreciation and implementation of the stated cultural values... there was no space for true diversity, real independent thinking, and much-needed genuine celebration of individuals and successes. For the most part the culture enabled the people who were capable of leaving a trail of bodies in their path to rise the top (some to the very top) while the others left or were let go... a constant churn. Overall, mostly a demoralizing place for me. JoAnna had a great vision and set the cultural values - it was a good start but for some reason they always felt muted in the day-to-day and not reflective of the personalities that sat in the most influential levels.

Pros

Smart software engineers Some interesting problems to solve Prior to Covid, working I. The office downtown was enjoyable Learned a lot while I was there

Cons

Highly political environment, favoritism is present Seriously lacking diversity in the engineering dept for a company trying to be in the tech space Lack of female leadership/mentorship in the engineering department COO was promoted to CEO, although he harbors an extremely toxic culture. Many people who left cited this in exit interviews prior to his promotion. Projects/major decisions made without having data to back it up. Leadership lacks knowledge on the product, then takes credit for the work of all the engineers Most of the talented engineers have since left Pay is not competitive for a “tech” company, they throw one time bonuses at people who ask for raises and have an extremely slow promotion process. No real path for ICs, and hire managers from outside rather than promote. Project work with Amazon is extremely dramatic and political Had some extremely hateful coworkers while there Over 4 years there, there were many major cases of harassment, always against women. These were never truly addressed by leadership and brushed under the rug. Leadership encourages unrealistic deadlines, even when they know it will compromise quality. Serious culture divide between downtown and Oak Brook office.
