      Magnificent teammates, phenomenal benefits — top-serving leadership that devalues employees

      Pros

      Theoretically, the mission of its three pillars is inspiring. That’s what draws incredibly driven and collaborative experts to join. That, and phenomenal benefits—such as 2:1 giving matches, large donations to employee-selected nonprofits on work anniversaries, generous leave for every life need, really fun team-building gatherings, and more.

      Cons

      Most employees come to feel that the founders care more about looking good than doing good. And senior leaders remain in place only when they serve top leadership, at the expense of employees. Examples include: increasingly removing opportunities for employees to ask questions or give feedback on changes; using subjective, qualitative performance reviews to downsize instead of brand-harming layoffs; and maintaining leaders even when business goals flounder and morale tanks.

      Lack of strategy and direction from leadership

      Pros

      Great benefits and very flexible work hours. People are smart and passionate about the work.

      Cons

      Way too many stakeholders and lack of direction from leadership. The current leadership team cannot align amongst themselves. They tell you to build business cases/ideas without guardrails then turn down the ideas because it didn't match their expectations. They give you positive feedback then shut down your projects.

      Do Your Best Work For a Better Future

      Pros

      The focus at CZI is really on being empowered to make your work as impactfully as possible. It is a privilege to have your goal truly be doing your best work and growing in your field and not generating a profit. You get to work with brilliant people who celebrate each other as much as the work they do. CZI works hard to provide competitive salaries and benefits. They are always striving to be an industry leader in terms of benefit and compensation strategies. You are supported as a whole person, not just a worker, and that means a lot - generous vacation, support with your life goals, support for those with children, and benefits around supporting a whole you. There is work going on to truly "walk the walk" of our organizational values, but it is a genuine effort to do so and not just lip service you would see at a large corporation.

      Cons

      There is a lot of overcommunication from CZI central, but it is the result of people working hard to design a better work environment for us. Overall, I feel very lucky to work here.
