Pros

I have been there for 16 years now. The culture of the company is all about the best interests of the customer. Everything is built up around that core concept. I have great pride and satisfaction in working for Schwab.

Cons

I have been the sole member of a geolocated team for almost 8 years. That has been a lonely job, but most of that is my fault for not reaching out and building relationships with my co-workers nearby, even though they are in totally different departments.

Pros

decent cafeteria nice people in working units.

Cons

I was employed at this company for numerous years and experienced a significant change after the merger. Despite having a track record of exceeding expectations every year and receiving numerous awards, I was replaced by less experienced and less professional managers who lacked even a basic understanding of some of the product lines I oversaw. The opportunities for advancement are minimal, with cookie-cutter management, management by the numbers, and ridiculous processes. There is a pervasive sense of phoniness everywhere you turn. Severance pay was low, and the clawbacks on award stock that I received were unfair, ultimately being given to employees who remained. Executives like Walt Bettinger paid themselves handsomely every year, while the average employees, who rely on small bonuses, saw nearly a 30% reduction in their bonuses. Meanwhile, our CEO received almost $24 million, which is almost 250 times the average salary of a mid-level manager. This is a disgusting example of the misused and fake corporate environment that exists in the United States. I'm sure that human resources teams and publicists will read this and come back with some ridiculous comment about contacting them to discuss or disputing what I am saying, but these were my personal experiences and those of many of my colleagues. Avoid this company at all costs, unless you are an individual only looking to finish the last few years of your career.

Pros

Good onboarding program for new college graduates looking to go into IT Good benefits package that includes HSA contributions, Health Insurance, ESPP, one month sabbatical every 5 years (Probably going away with the new idiot they are grooming to be CEO though), etc. Mostly good work-life balance except for madated RTO Helpful team members

Cons

No chance for internal promotions because incompetent executives can't manage interest rate risk Extremely slow and bureaucratic. Hard to do my job due to infrastructure teams and bureaucrats. Company then uses "regulations" as an excuse for using archaic technologies and practices when the regulations don't exist or say something completely different. Company doesn't put any effort into automation, resolving tech debt, and properly practicing agile methodologies. Mandates RTO on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with no respect for employees. Micromanaging and more concerned with how I do my job instead of what I deliver. Limits your career options since interviewers know how unproductive the company is.
