Pros

Schwab has understanding team level managers

Cons

Schwab does NOT CARE about its employees or its clients. Only profit. Came from the TD side and can tell you first hand that if there was anything a client needed that wasn’t a password reset or an account transfer out, Schwab didn’t want to help. I only spent 3 months of the Schwab side before I couldn’t take it anymore. Schwab didn’t listen to a thing its employees were saying and execs would keep information secret even to managers until after they made huge changes (I.e. changing wfh policy and not telling any management until AFTER the email was sent out). And if a client called in with a concern, it’s was like punching through a brick wall to even help them. Service desktop was garbage and all the trading systems felt like they were for a kindergartener with no capability for high level trading. And all is TD reps were told it would be a step up with better tools and better staffing but it just turned out to be FOOLS GOLD.

Pros

Good pay. Benefits. Flexible work from home.

Cons

Toxic Culture. They do not want full honest answers. Will be seen as a toxic high performer and will be on a list for layoffs. Very hard to get information from anyone. Fake nice is the standard from everyone. Will tell you they will do x and then never actually do it. Or will tell you that you heard them wrong. Consistently see/hear people working 60+ our weeks. Extremely short deadlines for new technology work that will not get used for months. Mired in interdepartmental politics. Very stuck in 1980's There is a process for everything and you only find out the process has changed after you follow the process you thought was live. Really only starting to use Agile and Python. Python development is extremely slow and painful as it is "untrusted".

Pros

There are some very talented individuals in the organization. There is access to an extensive amount of training material and online courses and funding opportunities for external courses.

Cons

Schwab needs a top down culture transformation in the technology organizations. The existing leadership is not capable of delivering that. They are 15-20 years or more behind industry peers maturity and capabilities and that is largely unacknowledged and unrecognized amongst leadership. There is a complete absence of engineering culture, product management, and leadership. There is a preference to reward firefighting and completely ignore fire prevention. Management culture also prefers to subjectively talk and PowerPoint problems to death instead of using data analysis to help drive faster decision making and movement toward resolution. Nothing Schwab is doing with technology is groundbreaking or innovative. The majority of the work is to address problems many other larger enterprises already solved 10-15 years ago. Schwab needs to learn how to listen to and use this experience and knowledge from the individual team members who bring much of this experience to the table. Much of the problems are people and process issues and not simple technology gaps.
