Pros

The 9/80 work week was good, but they did not give you any extra money to enjoy the area (poverty level for that area).

Cons

Got a really lowball offer for a manager position in San Ramon, when applying for an application analyst position. It was less than a than an entry fresh out of college graduate with no work experience, which they actually had published in one of their articles. If you have 15 years of experience they should never try to have someone living in poverty requiring multiple jobs just to be able to live in the area, what kind of quality of work do you expect from your employees. Check the toilet paper in the employee restrooms if it is still thin and crumbles up, RUN! The lobby had nice paper for the visitors but once went inside the glass doors there was a huge difference in the amenities.

Pros

pay well, international travel, good development opportunity

Cons

too process focused. Instead of teaching lower level management how to manage, they just create a new process and forget it after 5 years Chevron is very proud of their inclusive culture, but that culture prevents the expression of any disagreement, even when warranted. This makes it impossible to have a decent technical discussion. This is pervasive to all technical areas.

Pros

Friendly co-workers, inclusive culture, good work/life balance, most people get every other Friday off. I have been treated well and have never been asked to work through nights or weekends. Overall the company is a well organized and well run machine.

Cons

Little career growth potential in the SF bay area, especially with low oil prices and recently announced lay offs (many jobs being relocated to Texas or overseas anyway, eventually HQ expected to go to Texas as well). Not a progressive culture; being a 100 year old oil company it is more interested in preserving the status quo than investing in alternative/renewable energy sources that we will eventually need to convert to. HQ in San Ramon feels very sterile and quiet despite its size. Plenty of room and potential to make it a much more lively and compelling office campus. The company is extremely image conscious and pushes the espousal of safety to absurd limits, especially for an office environment that does not come with the same set of industrial dangers that a refinery or an exploration field would.
