Pros

Great place to start for no experience people. They help you with citizenship Free beer after 5 Lot of exposure to high profile hedge funds good health benifits

Cons

Very Very Low Pay Repetitive work, Long hours 70hr/week in month end Unless you are at managerial level you have no say or opinion in anything ( I was not allowed to meet my client that I worked on for 2 years everyday, when he was visiting and drinking with senior management ) Very demotivating Looked down upon Hours are not flexible, you can not organise a lunch with someone, there is always work that needs to be done. No sense of time at work. More hrs means good. Quality has no input Lower employees suffer because of senior managements wrong decisions and do not have a say.

Dear Colleague – we appreciate your feedback and thanks for starting off on a positive note to highlight some of the pluses of working at Citco. We are happy to hire bright graduates with little or no industry experience and provide a unique opportunity to work in Halifax for an international firm in the hedge fund arena. Operations Analysts are enrolled in a 2 year development plan with thorough training including a company paid certificate program from the CFA Institute. There is great value to the financial knowledge that you will gain here and this is part of the overall investment the firm makes in its employees (in addition to compensation and great benefits). As staff develop, they are eligible for salary reviews at the 6 and 12 month marks that will increase their salary upwards of 10%+ in their first year (depending on performance, of course). With respect to workload, Halifax management is also very focused on this area and aware of the issues. Positions in our field usually require some overtime; however, this year senior management will be reviewing the workload and recruiting heavily to address the work/life concerns of staff.

Dear Former Colleague - thanks for you rating and highlighting some of the many positive aspects of the Citco work experience. I'm always surprised when someone thinks there are limited opportunities here given how much there is to learn in our industry. If you feel limited in IR, one can always consider opportunities in other Citco departments especially if you have accounting skills. Sometimes staff do have to go back to school to up-skill or gain an accounting degree - but if you are ambitious and want to grow, that's just part of what it takes to move up or even laterally into other departments that may be more interesting and career fulfilling.
