Pros

Benefits are decent, PTO is more than fair at an Officer level. There appear to be decent opportunities for growth within the company.

Cons

The size of the company means that most employee-relations procedures are automated, it is nearly impossible to get assistance. There is little to no sense of teamwork or community. Potential for overtime is considered when compensation offers are made, resulting in low offers. Company requires you to provide your own equipment for hybrid schedule qualification, while providing no stipend for wear and tear on personal electronics being used for business. Office space is extremely uncomfortable, company seems determined to keep people in the office likely in order to avoid “wasting” rent on a commercial office space, despite most business and all meetings being conducted via Zoom.

Pros

I joined Citi two years ago as a software engineer in one of their teams. The pay is competitive and the work/life balance is good. My upper management allows us to work from home four days a week, which is very convenient. Overall, I think Citi is a decent place to work if you land on a good team with a good manager. But be prepared to deal with some frustration and politics along the way.

Cons

However, I also face some challenges working for such a huge company. There is a lot of red tape and bureaucracy that slows down the progress and innovation. My middle manager is not very supportive or transparent with me. He seems more interested in making himself look good than helping his team grow. The technology we use is outdated and restrictive. We also have to attend many useless meetings that waste our time and energy.

Pros

The salary is average and they offer a 6% matching 401K

Cons

Citi is a sweatshop. If you are an American you will be placed at the back of the hiring line. When walking through the corporate office you'd never know you're in the US. Over the years Citi has actively terminated US born citizen employees in favor of H1B's and others. This is after they off shored all functions banking regulators would allow. The environment has also become toxic and life draining. Day to day you never know when security walks up behind you and escorts you out of the building after decades of employment. No warning, no party, no watch, just a rushed packing of your personal effects then they hustle you out of the door. After watching this happen dozens of times to good hard working coworkers you realize this place is just pure evil. Those of us left are asked to pick up the slack and do the work of your departed coworkers. A common theme in todays corporate world it seems. Avoid at all costs
