Pros

Citizens does offer a variety of career paths for all types of degrees and interests. Your sales numbers mean a lot and if you can consistently produce you will get noticed for promotions.

Cons

Prepare to be micromanaged. If your manager is by the book for can expect to have every 30 minutes of your day blocked out for an activity. The banks processes don't allow people to be themselves but more like robots. Their new incentive programs are also a lot worse than in the past. Under the old system the average banker made $4800 per quarter in bonuses. Under the new P&L system that has significantly dropped and reaching those levels now means hitting 5 times your minimum expectation.

Pros

Great colleagues and great products make Citizens Bank (formerly Charter One) wonderful to work for. Generous amount of paid time off yearly, even for new employees. Competitive salaries and hourly pay for employees. 99% of our customers are amazing! Strong company commitment to community involvement and volunteerism. For these reasons I am extremely grateful to work for Citizens Bank.

Cons

Upper management is completely out of touch with what customers want and how they want to be treated. We are quickly becoming just like Chase and other big banks--sad we are losing our 'small bank feel". Extreme micromanagement and unrealistic sales goals with a new HORRIBLE incentive model. We are literally told what to say and how to say it for every imaginable sales opportunity. On top of that, we have to fill out Stat sheets to account for our every move throughout the day. Interrogate EVERY customer EVERY time to cross sell as much as is possible. We used to be "Not your typical bank" but we are now anything but. Very disappointing.

The Worst

Pros

Excellent benefits and pay structure.

Cons

Extremely weak mortgage leadership team places all value on personally looking good and absolutely none on execution and results. Huge disconnect above lower mid management. Layoffs with no rhyme or reason often wiping out much needed talent. Rock bottom morale. Competitive toxic environment. Many mandatory training sessions with no actual information that translates to the job. Lots of busy work and ineffective checklists.
