Impaired systems, misguided management

Pros

When you are working on a well managed team as I was in the beginning it can be a very friendly and rewarding experience. I'd recommend this employer because it will help you get in the door of better employers.

Cons

Most managers are busy creating the appearance of success which involves a lot of blame trickling down to lower level analysts. Computer systems are spread out and antiquated (major data banks are often held in Access 97). There is meeting upon meeting to discuss operations and their approach to issues is a practice in attention deficit disorders. Ask about layoffs!

Pros

Good introduction to banking industry. Benefits/Salary are ok for not requiring much experience. Some opportunity to grow if you put in your own effort to really learn the product line and banking areas.

Cons

Limited potential for promotion in the retail banking sector. Pressure to sell banking products can sometimes lead to bad customer service. Working with unqualified/uninformed Bankers, sale people only.

Pros

Pay is fair, and they give great consideration to work experience in lieu of a completed formal education. Upper Management tries to be available and supportive of growth measures in the branches.

Cons

I've been gone for 2 years now, and from what I understand, there have been changes for the better. But, during my employment, the sales goals and treatment for smaller branches in rural and suburban areas was really rough, nearly impossible to attain. Bonus scales looked great on paper, but couldn't be reached, even for the most competitive over-achievers. Products and services were not as attractive as competitors. Changes from Upper Level Management were constantly being implemented without careful consideration or preparation. It was always painfully obvious how quickly and whimsically decisions were made, and the front line at the branches constantly looked like the fools, and had to take a lot of abuse from disgruntled customers over it.
