Pros

This job is easy as can be. If you want to show up collect a paycheck while doing very little, this job is for you. The benefits aren't half bad.

Cons

At Citizens Bank, you will be given virtually no responsibility. Your training will consist of very brief sporadic sessions, that are poorly run and relate very little to the actual day to day of the job. You are responsible for learning anything you want to know, that is if you stay around for more than a few months, as typically, turnover is VERY high. Once this training is completed you will be thrust into a branch, forced to participate in brutal conference calls several times a day, where nothing besides made up numbers are discussed. The odds you will have to train your own manager are high, and again, because of the turnover, you will have to do this often. This job is pretty rough, as there are no customers, no advertising support, and very little competent back office help. If a career in retail banking is something you want, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere.

Pros

Citizens had been a place where one could get a good start in the financial services industry. But pressures from the top for unrealistic growth created unethical behavior, mistrust and a very stressful, negative work environment. Of course, we have since found out what a disaster its parent company, the Royal Bank of Scotland, is, so there was obviously trouble brewing for some time.

Cons

Disrespectful management, a "Stepford Wives" kind of do what I say, not what I do mentality.

Pros

Company culture is REALLY trying to improve an old man's industry and turn it exciting to attract newer, or younger and sharper employees. The sales side is not very demanding, not meeting your goals or generally wasting a lot of your time overall is hardly ever punished. Decent benefits and relatively high hourly pay.

Cons

expectations are unclear. Company itself is not sure whether they want to focus on sales, or on customer service, and typically folds at the mercy of the customer on the simplest rules. Goals are unrealistic, bonuses are promised and hardly ever attainable. Too many sales are "lost" or found reasons to not give credit for. Too much time spent being a telemarketer.
