Great people, workaholic company culture

Pros

Great company to quickly gain experience and contribute to a greater goal. Engineers/analysts are often given manager-level duties, so new hires become knowledgeable very quickly. Excellent reputation in the industry for high quailty and honest work. Proud of the projects Clark builds. High-profile buildings and critical infrastructure make a positive impact. Great volunteer opportunities in the communities where offices are located. Solid comraderie among hardworking people. Almost everyone is willing to act as a mentor or advocate. Very easy to make friends. People band together to form support networks. Good relationships = good opportunities down the line. I can't say enough about the fantastic people I work with every day!

Cons

Construction is not for those who want work-life balance or cushy amenities. No flexibility with remote work and bare minimum vacation time and holidays. Working at Clark can make it hard to have a social life with friends outside of the company because the hours are so demanding. Resistance to change and old-school company culture fostered by leaders with traditional values and expectations - could be a pro or con depending on your personal values. Difficult to advance past a certain level. Office politics play a large role in who gets what. Hierarchy is heavily structured. Middle-management has some power in making decisions for their teams, but direction is ultimately top-down. New employees are tasked with large responsibilities right off the bat - sink or swim. Expectation to put in very long hours, common to work 6 days a week to get the job done. Some job sites and departments are better than others, but most of my peers got burned out and left within 1-2 years of starting. Be prepared to work.

Terrible Leadership

Pros

There are some good and smart people who are great to work with.

Cons

Leadership just doesn't listen and creates unnecessary challenges. For example, I was consistently tasked with projects to find products that would never be purchased due to cost. Everything had to be cheaper but work better and provide more features than what was currently in place. If I was unable to find this unicorn of a product, I would get a terrible annual review. Too much office politics and leadership comes off as fake. They will act like they care about you but will completely turn their backs on you the moment you are no longer useful to them.
