Pros

Job is rewarding on a more personal level than originally thought it would be

Cons

5 years and in spite of exceptional reviews, only making .60 more an hour than starting pay, pay for parking, but mostly the inability of enacting cost savings along with proven work life balance that can be gained thru offering more remote work from home options when they are clearly a viable and positive choice for both the Clinic and the employee.

Pros

You could make an entire career out of all the opportunities at the Clinic, job-wise. People get in and stay for their whole careers (this is a mixed bag when it comes to trying to do things differently). The Clinic is well-respected externally and will look good on your resume. If you look hard enough, there are some really fantastic people working here.

Cons

A VERY ego-driven, old-school organization. Leaders at the Clinic think they have everything they need, and are often not open to developing, changing, or admitting room for improvement. This is the most political environment I have ever worked in- people can be ruthless and often seem to be pitted against each other instead of working toward the common goal. This is not an organization that will look out for you, or make fair decisions about things like promotions and pay.

Pros

Flexible hours (research), health center, one of the few biotech opportunities in northern OH

Cons

Institution doesn't support basic science research as much as clinical; more interested in saving $ than supporting research. Spent a ton of money on "engagement"- yet really never followed through. It's all about "looking" like the greatest employer than actually BEING one. (i.e.- if a PI brings in $$- then they can treat their employees as nasty as they like). I have a great boss- but many PI's are not respectful.
