Pros

Design Consultant has flexible schedule.

Cons

Low income. Design Consultants make less than $30,000 1st year (not the $100,000 their ads say) and averages less than $10/hr. Prepare to have little/no income first 3-6 months. Lots of problems with production and installation. Old systems. No benefits or paid holidays.

It seems like you did not click with the position, put in enough hours, ask for help closing, learn how to do whole house selling, learn how to upgrade the sale, or maybe develop referrals and self-generated leads that have increased commission percentages. $30,000 would be a very part-time Designer. Closing along with the average sale shows how well you are doing. Thanks for your feedback. Too bad it didn't work out.

Pros

I moved to Dallas earlier this year from Oregon, to continue reaching higher goals. This location, although new, seems like I'm going to be able to do just that. The market here is incredible and way more potential to grow. The owner's vision here is a HUGE reason why I made the move. His views on custom service, taking care of his employees and making sure his team is successful was high up on my list. Of course, the DFW market is exploding, so I see this location turning into something amazing. Being a designer, the work life balance can be a bit tough, but it's doable and there are many perks. I really love this job and I love the opportunities to develop relationships with clients.

Cons

Of course, no place is perfect, but we are growing so rapidly, there are things that are falling through the cracks. Right now we're in warp speed and it can be hard to manage everything. Although, I think he has the right people who will only make it a better place to work. I truly believe that this time next year, we will be lightyears away from what we're experiencing currently.

Pros

Working for a family owned business shows the attention to detail. I came in with no design experience and they provided the best training with continuous seminars monthly to fine tune skills. I control my income an schedule.

Cons

My income is based upon my own effort. If make use of my management team and make myself more available to clients I have a higher income potential.

Thanks for leaving feedback. In most cases, designers do earn more income if they accept or self-generate more appointments. It gives more opportunities to sell more projects. Of course, my comments about a designer's income are oversimplified. Deerfield does invest a lot of effort into developing their employees which is really important and helps employees reach their personal goals.
