Pros

Excellent employment benefits such as holiday, pension and 30% off coop branded items. I work with a lovely team of people who have made me feel very welcome since starting my job in October 2025.

Cons

Our store is short staffed and there is a lot of work to do in the time we are given to do it. I thrive in this kind of pressured environment however I can see that this pressure is affecting some of my colleagues negatively.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for highlighting the benefits you’ve enjoyed, including the welcome from your team and the employment benefits. We hear many positive things about the number of holidays our food store teams benefit from and the 30% colleague member discount too. It’s great to hear you’re enjoying your role. We appreciate your constructive feedback around staffing levels and task prioritisation. Insights like yours help us understand the pressures colleagues face and how they impact teams differently. If you’d like to explore these points further, raising them through your manager or our internal feedback channels is the best way to ensure they’re considered where decisions can be made. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Pros

All in all it's a good company to work for, the store on hartington road in dronfield was really nice, which is where I spent most of my employment with co-op. The team there was lovely and we all got on well.

Cons

The co-op will make sure that their public image is their top priority rather than the welfare of an employee, and God forbid someone chooses to make allegations and use those to smear dirt on the co-op. You'll be out the door without so much as a goodbye before you even wake up the next morning. Also, if you do decide to leave the co-op on good circumstances but due to unfortunate events, don't plan on returning as they will flat out ignore your applications no matter what area you try to apply in. Not even an interview nor past consideration, you'll be denied within the first few days of the application being submitted. All for their public image even if you have done nothing wrong and had to leave due to extenuating circumstances.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for highlighting the positives about your time with the team in Dronfield. We’re sorry to hear you feel disappointed about the process of returning. Many former colleagues do successfully rejoin us, and we value the experience they bring. There are situations where re-employment isn’t possible, but these decisions are based on individual circumstances rather than a blanket approach. If you’d like clarity on your own situation, the best route is to contact our recruitment or HR team directly. Thank you again for taking the time to share your perspective.

Pros

Friendly and supportive colleagues in most stores Flexible part-time hours, good for students or second jobs Staff discount and membership benefits Generally inclusive workplace with strong values around community and ethics

Cons

Pay is average for retail and doesn’t always reflect workload Can be understaffed, especially during busy periods High workload when covering multiple roles (tills, stock, cleaning) Management quality varies a lot by store Limited career progression for part-time staff Weekend and evening shifts are often expected Not enough training given No support enough for new mothers (staff) or mothers who got little kids (staff)

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you’ve experienced support from colleagues and value the flexibility and benefits we offer. We’re sorry to learn that some aspects of your experience haven’t met expectations, particularly around training and support for new starters. We encourage colleagues to raise concerns through the appropriate internal channels, such as speaking with their manager or using our colleague feedback platforms. That way, your concerns can be heard by the people who can act on them. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts.
