      Mind numbingly bureaucratic with insular senior management over their heads

      Pros

      There are a few excellent people trying to do good work in support of the mission, in spite of a poisonous culture.

      Cons

      Senior leadership is arrogant, narcissistic and deaf to any constructive criticism or ideas. Overly concerned with rhetoric and image, instead of real progress and work. A great deal of dead wood and failing up, limits the potential for advancement and career paths for even the most talented staffers. Too much back stabbing and a frightening lack of transparency. HR plays favorites and does not protect or support employees.

      Worst place I ever worked

      Pros

      They pay you well - silver handcuffs, don't fall for it.

      Cons

      Racist, xenophobic, horrible place. They do not stand for what they say they stand for. It's all about money and the bottom line. They don't care about their employees and it's a very white man's world there. Microaggressions (heck macro even) were rampant.

      Decent but lots of politics

      Pros

      Nice people. Smart people. Care about the mission. Nice culture. Decent comp for a non profit.

      Cons

      The leadership team I was part of was very political - who you know meant everything and it was more style over substance. There was a high school clique feel at CB - a bit revenge of the nerds - and if you weren't a part of it, you weren't on anybody's radar. Very bureaucratic - over collaboration and CYA meetings that diluted accountability. And never forget it's a business despite all of the mission driven/family language you hear.
