Pros

Great discounts! You get online access to 50% off all Columbia, Sorel, Mountain Hard Wear, and Montrail products (this can only be accessed on a computer at your store or the employee store in Portland, OR.) Twice a year you are given 5 coupons that allow a one time online access from any computer for 50% off each of the brand I listed above. Advancement Opportunities were average in the area I worked. It depends where you work though. There are Corporate positions, Outlet positions, and Branded store positions. Outlets would provide the most opportunities because they are currently profitable and have more stores in numbers. The branded stores are new and looking to become profitable so things are still getting figured out. Great management is a priority here. Chances are your manager will be fair and work with you to help you grow and make life enjoyable at work. There are exceptions to this rule but this was my general impression. You will almost never work overtime - management is paid hourly (except the store manager). Its nice to have a consistant 40 hour week.

Cons

Its retail - the normal cons are to be expected (work weekends, holidays, and ok pay). Expectations of management are high - you'll have to hit the ground running here. Expectations of associates are average - compared to other sales based retail jobs (Best Buy, and Victoria Secret) this is a relaxed spot.

Pros

Good general work environment, fairly flexible, remnants of a great company culture that is dying out. Decent health insurance, free coffee, subsidized cafeteria, exercise room. etc.

Cons

Has become highly political, many layers of management with infighting, no longer respects faithful employees, eager to outsource. Over the last 5 years the work environment has become much more hostile, more emphasis on "blaming the other group" for failures rather than concentrating on making successes. Emphasis on "pleasing/impressing upper management" rather than on doing anything to help the people who actually do the real work.
