Pros

High-caliber coworkers Generous and flexible PTO benefit Excellent downtown/River North location Work that makes a difference in clients' lives Opportunities to gain substantive work experience Work-life balance/ work-from-home accommodations for senior employees and parents Diverse work environment in most departments Annual salary increases (3-5%) to keep up with inflation

Cons

Talent is highly concentrated in lower level, soft-skilled employees and but is lacking elsewhere with relatively few exceptions. Service-oriented employees in Network Services, Customer Service, GRU, and other similar interacting departments are disgustingly undervalued. Communication with upper management is few and far between (also a pro). Unprofessional mid-level managers exhibit toxic behaviors out of fear. The most driven employees (typically those who are relatively young in age or with under 10 years experience) go unrecognized and unrewarded until they burn out and leave. Employee retention is pitiful and the hiring process to fill empty positions is pathetically slow.

Pros

Easy to commute, Accrue PTO at a good pace, Free water and snacks (when restocked and working)

Cons

Management discriminates, No room for growth, Unhealthy competition and bitterness between coworkers, low base pay and even though you get a raise every year, it is so small that it doesn't make much of a difference. I worked here for almost three years and busted my butt to surpass daily goals, train new employees, and took on more than my fair share of work and special tasks. No recognization besides being given more work. Was bullied by past managers about losing my job. Gave my two weeks notice and was never even acknowledged until a week after when HR emailed me the departure process. I never heard from my manager about leaving and when I went to turn in my ID, they had left early. I tried to move to different positions in the company that I was fully qualified for and never even heard a response while coworkers who weren't doing special tasks were being promoted constantly.

Pros

Constant support from supervisors: There is always someone available anytime you need help, and there is never any backlash for needing help. Beautiful office location Kind coworkers who will go out of their way to make you feel welcome Low level of expertise required: There isn't much you can do in the psychological field with a BA, but that is all you need to be able to do this job well Free tickets to Bulls and Blackhawks games Giving Culture: Everyone who works here wants to help people, and the company does too. 95% of the time my job is to give away things for free and generally make people happier. The other 5% is transferring the caller to someone who can give more away. Work/Life Balance: You will never have to take your work home with you at the end of the day Stability without boredom: Every caller will have dramatically different needs and a unique story, so you are never bored, but the job itself never changes

Cons

Pay is very low for the area (I've made more working as a cashier at a gas station) Call Center: Doing psychological work over the phone is tricky, and can get stressful if a client is in crisis or combative. Advancement: There are ways to advance within the company, but the ceiling is pretty low. You're not going to start on the phones and end up running the department. Cog in the Machine: The employees that have worked here for 4 or 5 years start to have that "beaten down" look that I always associate with corporate cubicle jobs.
