      Lipstick on a Pig

      Cons

      The majority of executive and senior leadership are basically putting lipstick on a pig. The technology is old with band-aid fixes, legal and compliance rules all, and the amount of retail locations is absurd for 2019. This bank truly believes it is on par with the big banks in terms of technology and other services. They still sing about not taking bailout money during the recession, even though it was over a decade ago, which is probably their single greatest achievement. If you're a "Yes" man/woman and drink the ultra-conservative Commerce kool-aid, you can go far here. Otherwise, if you have ambitions stay away, you'll be the only salmon swimming upstream.

      No cons. However, Commerce is like a slow steady stable moving train, it will get you there, but a little slower!

      Great Company, Great Culture, Great Management

      Pros

      The team works together to drive business forward. I've worked at several different banks throughout my career, but this one treats its employees with respect and has taken a long term view of banking. The corporate culture here is phenomenal, and it is fully backed by leadership all the way up to the top. It's a place where you can build a long term career.

      Cons

      Compensation is slightly less than average. The opportunity to make up for it in bonuses can bridge the gap. Benefits are more expensive than other places I've worked.
