Pros

Great mission, really good people to work together with, vast opportunity to improve kids lives in a dynamic tech environment that serves millions of people around the world. An organization with great brand awareness and impact, I hardly run into parents in the Bay Area or on the East Coast who do not know the org and immediately perk up when I say I work here. Common Sense is playing a major role in the pushback against the dark side of technology while carefully trying to highlight the beneficial aspects of technologies.

Cons

Lots going on, location far from BART.

Pros

Great, committed group of people from diverse non-profit and for-profit backgrounds. The mix of perspectives - from media and tech, education, policy/advocacy vantage points - results in innovative approaches. Lots of cross-department collaboration. Fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture. Never boring as media and tech issues are constantly evolving. Still a relatively small organization (100+ people) but with huge reach and outsized impact. Strong commitment to serving diverse, low-income populations through K-12 schools program. Consistently exceed annual and three-year strategic goals. Care deeply about family and there's flexibility for work-life balance. Women well-represented in leadership positions.

Cons

Pace can be relentless at times. Senior management communication around new strategic initiatives sometimes slow or incomplete.

Pros

The mission is timely and has never been more important. The organization provides an important service and parents and educators love it. The work environment is collaborative, creative, and solution-oriented. The teams are dedicated and care deeply about the work and making a difference in kids' lives.

Cons

In some areas, the organization tries to take on more than it can execute and sometimes the available resources are not in line with the ambitions of the organization.
