Pros

The non executive staff are smart and dedicated. They are good people and Do good work. The mission is more important than ever at this time when tech is being called to account for the damage they are doing to society. It’s a good place to work if you want to be in the City (I pity the people who commute), can manage the non profit salary, and don’t want to work in tech - which feels like the only other option in SF. It’s pretty white but they don’t age discriminate. No toxic tech bro culture at CSM.

Cons

All of the reviews on this site about the CEO are 100% true. It is a hostile work environment. People avoid intersecting with Jim and if you work close to him (or are interviewing for a job that does), don’t expect to last very long. It is a revolving door. Management, HR are powerless.

Serious Leadership Issues/Terrible CEO

Pros

Decent location; generally decent benefits; co-workers are nice.

Cons

The most egregious issues at the company come from executive management, particularly the CEO, Jim Steyer. Jim is quite profane and regularly uses hostile language (specifically profanity-laced) during meetings, creating a toxic/hostile work environment. These issues have been brought up with HR by a number of different individuals, but the behavior goes unchecked and continues. Additionally, a number of female colleagues have openly discussed (with me and others) concerns of gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and gender bias. These issues have also been brought up, but continues to go unchecked.
