Pros

The only reason to work here is to gain hours. However, you can get paid and earn hours in so many other ways. Before the pandemic, this was the only place to earn hours as an associate on the island. Now with telehealth, there are so many better ways to earn money and build up a solid practicee.

Cons

Miserable wages. Toxic work environment. Psychologically abusive managers. Poor training. Cult-like atmosphere in the WISe program. Harassment by other colleagues. I experienced bullying on a regular basis by other coworkers and my supervisor blamed me and allowed it to continue. I became so physically sick from the bullying that I had to quit. Oh, and the unions did absolutely nothing, other than to take your hard-earned money. Culture of secrecy, where you are not supposed to tell families the truth. Care coordinators who pretend to be counselors and go on power trips, causing a great deal of damage to families. Getting in trouble for following code of ethics. There is no point working here, when you can make quadruple the amount of money as an associate and pay for your own insurance if you start your own business, pay for your own supervision, or contract with someone else or an umbrella agency. Also, as the only person of color in the group, I was treated as a pariah. They talk about diversity to make themselves feel good, but no one knows how to treat people of color well at Compass Health. Being a person of color makes you a target, and your supervisors will not stand up for you, but will make your life miserable if you make any complaints. Good luck trying to take a vacation, even if you scheduled it in advance. You will be so overworked and every minute of your day, you are on call and can't just walk away from the job. Excessive amounts of needless paperwork and drama.

Interesting Work

Pros

A great chance to start your career in this field and get trainings and skills that would be harder to get with only a B.A. or lesser degree. Also, friendly coworkers and paid trainings.

Cons

Really bad coffee. No joke. Also, management is really young and although they mean well, do not have nearly as much experience as you would expect. That being said, no complaints yet and they work hard. Demands are also intense. Pay should be higher.

Pay and dealing with hostile environment, HR is the worse they never investigate properly as they will fire you with out notice, they do not back up a whistle blower as they say they do
