Pros

Sure, your typical great "startup" stuff - open spaces, stocked fridges, catered lunches, and monthly happy hours. Also has a flexible WFH policy which is fantastic for staff. There are certainly some great diamonds to be found in the employees here, but it's not super common.

Cons

Leadership is too young, too financially-driven, and not at all transparent. It's extremely male-dominated, and there is a super bizarre culture of talking behind everyone's backs. Management doesn't know how to take care of its employees yet, which is ridiculous considering it's no longer a small, nimble startup. It should be mature enough to know how to treat people with respect and keep turnover at a minimum. Very reactive and not at all proactive.

Pros

Do you have a soul/ethics/ambition? Compass will gladly remove that from you - free of charge!

Cons

When I was first hired, I thought this company was the "it" company and would be setting standards for other companies. Turns out the company is just a pleasantly wrapped soiled diaper instead! First: Everything is all about the agents. If they don't like you, you're gone. You are told to do something by upper management, but then turn and capitulate to what the agents want from you even though in training they said you are NOT an assistant to the agents. Also, if you weren't a founding member (a top agent recruited in the area to open the office), then you're treated like scum and a second rate agent. Technology is debuted before it is tested, so you think you'll have really cool unique stuff when in fact it's not able to be mass implemented so it's just a tactic used to create excitement without any follow through. My personal space was trashed by an agent. Instead of addressing it with the agent after reporting to HR, I was promptly paid to terminate my employment. The stress this company put me through was not at all worth the compensation. They waste money to make agents happy while cutting all benefits and joy for the office. Do agents really need $100 embossed presentation booklets or should we give our employees decent benefits? 🤔 Definitely whatever the agents want. It's like an American TV high school drama but a working environment.

Pros

- Free health insurance - The company design is gorgeous and well thought out - The people I work with are fantastic/good people

Cons

- You are married to Compass. If you aren't 100% invested, it's looked down upon. You will be checking your email from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. Every meal is in the office (and it's designed this way to keep you there). Wake up, eat every meal at Compass, go to bed. - Managers are abysmal. Most of them do not have the experience or bandwidth to manage a team. As an employee, you go into the company directionless and they expect you to figure it out on your own. The impression people have is that if you are not succeeding, it's because of you, not the lack of supervision. It's sink or swim - but if you sink, it is your fault. - If you aren't 100% bought in or seem skeptical, people act like there is something wrong with you. People view life outside of work a weakness. Compass has created a cult-like culture where no one questions the status quo. - Little pay for a ton of hours and management likes to pretend that burn out doesn't exist
