Pros

Perks like lunch, coffee and snacks. Working from home - especially if you cannot find childcare.

Cons

Utilizing perks like working from home because of no available childcare is used against you. Managers pass the buck for their failures onto others below. Company doesn't foster team work or independent thinking, managers pit people against each other and solicit finger-pointing whenever they can. People & Culture and the whole employee review process is an absolute mess only topped by how dysfunctional SalesForce setup is and how everything is managed by excel spreadsheets. Trying to maintain 20-30 different sheets to track all the work that isn't getting done. Broken processes that existed before I joined that no one cared to fix. Majority of the work requiring direction/approval of a manager. Overtime work that isn't paid at overtime pay. My manager trash talked about other agents, and other Compass employees but expected top notch customer service skills from everyone on the team. Had to listen to people's political views often enough, please check personal at the door, this is a place of business. A lot of time spent tracking, changing, updating, correcting, workarounds, etc., nothing gets fixed. Policies aren't enforced or don't exist. Manager spent more time shopping than time spent offering actual guidance. Managers also steal your ideas - holding one on one meetings just to catch up and later claiming these meetings were about performance is deceptive. Managers using metrics designed for a different purpose, metrics they don't clearly understand and/or erroneous.

Pros

great place to get experience working at a fast-paced company

Cons

During my first 6 months at Compass, my manager did not acknowledge me whatsoever. I attempted to schedule multiple 1:1 meetings to discuss what was expected of me and was stood up and ghosted for every single meeting I scheduled. Compass says they pride themselves on top management when they don't train their people managers and ignore negative feedback. Spent the majority of my time at the company (2+ years) going through messy performance review processes that were unexpectedly changed every time. Every performance review I went through, I received a score that was considered "excellent", was even promised a raise during one of my reviews. Then the HR team claimed there was a computing error and they weren't able to give out raises. They seemed to find every justification under the sun for why they couldn't give anyone a bonus or raise, unless you were an obvious favorite. When you try to contact an HR person to discuss how you feel undervalued and underpaid, there is virtually no one to help you or listen. At the end of my time there, they laid-off 20% of staff on a mass bluejeans call, where they put everyone on mute and told us it was our last day.

Pros

There is one advantage to working at Compass: free healthcare.

Cons

Working at Compass was terribly disappointing. They try to make you drink the kool-aid so that you don't realize you are working 60 hours a week to no avail. Unless you are at HQ, the management is only virtual and doesn't care to listen to you. Agents come first at Compass, which makes sense because they are the reason we are in business. However, when an agent says jump, management jumps regardless of how it affects employees. You won't have an advocate and your opinion doesn't matter. It's all a ruse. The company culture was great for a few months but can become very toxic - if one manager or agent doesn't like you, you're done. You will work long hours and achieve impossible tasks for agents and for the brand but it will go unnoticed. If you're a creative person, don't waste your time here. You will only work on templated postcards that are due in a matter of hours. The amount of work is ridiculous and you will never be able to make everyone happy but that's the expectation. Management is biased and never tells you what you're doing wrong. They give vague feedback and tell you to improve but provide no actual, concrete feedback. On many occasions, management will have already made up their mind about an issue and reprimand an employee rather than weighing both sides of the story. It's wrong, it's unreasonable and you're losing talent because of this.
