Pros

Skillsoft and unlimited test vouchers. Great flexibility.

Cons

I was hired on as an FST two years ago to work two contracts and no on call rotation. Now, literally over 100 manufacturer and industry certs attained, 24 contracts, on call rotation, responsibilities going well beyond the traditional FST roll to include acting as an account manager for some of the poorly managed contracts, logistics, and pretty much every other responsibility that can be thrown to the field (seriously I expect that half the work arounds for the KEDB are "let the field deal with it"), as well as mileage reimbursement so low that you are going to burn up cars faster than you can pay them off (literally blew the motor in one, and I am now so upside down that I will never be able to trade out from under it and it will be dead three years before it is paid off), all without a cent of a pay increase since I have been with the company. I have worked in many industries and have never seen a company operate in such a disheveled manner with literally no regard for their employee's as this one. The pay is low to begin with, and doing a market analysis on my certification/education level, experience, and responsibilities, I am paid close to 1/3 of my market value.

Pros

Free training, company pays for certifications

Cons

No loyalty to the employee. They will fire you at a moment's notice and give nothing more than one week's severance. They actually called me two months after firing me and offered me a position with a promotion from my previous level of employment and two dollars more per hour. I would not work for this company ever again. They care only about spreadsheets and quarterly earnings. Dependability, professionalism and just doing your job right aren't valued.Mediocre skilled employees that are willing to work for less are likely to be retained over high skilled employees with a higher pay rate/

Pros

No supervision. No oversight. No one is dotting i's or crossing t's on your work. Free certifications. Some fellow employees care about your development.

Cons

Pay is extremely low for the work done. As others have noted, no raises. If you live in a big city, avoid this company like the plague. As other techs in your area become disillusioned with the company they'll dump things on newer techs with little to no training. Certifications are great, but don't replace practical training.
