Thanks for the great comments. We really aim to show that we know that life exists outside of the office, so we're happy to hear that you feel the balance. It's also been a hallmark of comScore that our Director-level managers are still relatively hands on, which helps with getting buy in from their teams. Regarding Chicago, we did move some of the web development positions to Reston, so that we could align some of those teams. There are still open source and database teams in Chicago, and there are no current plans to change that, but we understand that can be discomforting to see positions move. This was something that was determined to be best for team symmetry and projects.

Pros

Interesting projects, casual work environment, flexible hours. If you prove yourself capable, you can have a good bit of influence on the direction of your team's work. The company is always working on new R&D so things stay interesting. Your mileage may vary depending on your team. Co-workers and managers are generally smart and friendly people.

Cons

Teams can get stuck in their ways. There is resistance to overhauling old code, so you can get stuck dealing with hacked-together legacy code and poor design decisions. There is often too much focus on adding new features and not enough on quality. Again, mileage varies by manager and team.

Thanks for leaving this review, we appreciate you taking the time to do this. We try to foster an environment where people can shine via their skills and expertise. We're a fast moving company and continually expanding our products, so boredom isn't a malady suffer from. The need for us to pivot quickly is just our reality. We'll definitely bring the code issue to the attention of management, as we think that's a really good point to highlight. We want to keep the environment for our devs fresh, as this is what makes the work interesting, and yes it probably does vary by team. We do know there are some things in the works to assist with this though. Thanks again for the thoughtful review, and we also liked the "mileage varies" quote, it was clever!
