Pros

the prestige is by far the best reason, especially if you expect your career to exist within organizations that recognize the reputation of the place. there can be some cool perks in terms of gifts you may receive from the publishers or editors when an award or business goal is met.

Cons

politics and incompetent management. everyone in the building is hired by someone who knows someone, so you can never be sure in who's interest it is to keep certain employees around. brown-nosing is the best way to protect your position and have less battles for promotions - but there is also a backstabbing culture so you can also never be sure when someone will turn! basically, watch your back and take what you can from the experience and move on!

Pros

the image, the challenge, the people, reputation and creativity. It's definitely a great place to gain experience and be challenged beyond your wildest dreams. Lots of innovation and energy!

Cons

Very long hours, very competitive people and managers. The philosophy seems to be that if you do a good job, you wont be recognized because you might take it to your head and stop working like a slave. There's not a lot of loyalty and no open door policy.

Pros

I work with really nice people. It is a well respected place to work industry-wide. The people and work are creative creative. The cafe is expensive but has great food.

Cons

They make assistants work crazy hours (9:30a - 7, 9, 12...) and many aren't on staff so they don't get the benefits and protection of staffers.
