Pros

Condé lets you work with really great brands. It's prestigious and great for your resume. Pay is decent and there isn't a ton of micromanagement. Summer Fridays are awesome and you have a chance to attend some super-chic events.

Cons

There is a ton of politics in the tech section. If you aren't on Ed's team and he doesn't like you he may starve for resources. It's taken them two and a half year to develop their piece of crap CMS and there is still not end in sight to the project. The new CDO is a stuffed shirt. Nobody ever gets promoted or a pay bump. If you start to get frustrated it's time to hit the eject button. The NYT will hire you an pay more.

Pros

access to big names and projects

Cons

Minimal room for growth, low pay, unrealistic expectations, toxic workplace on many fronts, no work life balance, a lot of "you're lucky to be here" messaging, boys club, lots of nepotism, really fast turnover of employees. They alsi often hire people as full-time freelancers with the promise to be FT salaried after a year, but will fire you after that year instead of bringing you on full time (not my experience, but saw it happen to dozens of talented colleagues).

Pros

Creative and passionate colleagues; encouraged to push the envelope and explore what's new in culture and fashion; dynamic office environment (when we actually worked in the office)

Cons

Nonexistent HR, poor management, zero career development. Merit-based raises are not even up for discussion; your reward for working incredibly hard is... staying employed! There is severe pay inequity and gender wage gaps; absolutely no transparency into this, the company works extremely hard to make sure people don't know what their colleagues are paid. As more people get laid-off and teams shrink, workloads double or triple for those who are still at the company. I'm talking 12-14 hour work days, 5 days a week, often weekends—and yet somehow you're never doing enough. During COVID, Conde Nast did not offer a single dollar to help employees purchase laptops or WFH equipment, yet they also have no plans for bringing employees back to 1WTC and their other buildings once people are vaccinated. We've been WFH for over a year now in tiny NYC apartments, and it's their responsibility as an employer to provide a productive environment. This is clearly not a priority—they are trying to downsize the office space and save $ on rent.
