Excellent and supportive colleagues. I felt admin responded to my needs and were helpful as I got my footing.

Cons

The population of students and families can be challenging. There is a high population of students with special needs and not enough support instructionally from special education teachers. It's not their fault; their caseloads are very high. There is also an issue with student engagement. Many students and families don't do their work and are truant. The problem is that the sole responsibility of getting these students on track is in the lap of the teacher. With 130-150 students in a class, continually reaching out (phone calls many times) is just not a reachable expectation when you consider the other responsibilities of holding lessons and grading. Ultimately, the work expectations just couldn't realistically be met and this hurt my sense of efficacy and upped my stress levels.

Pros

Mileage reimbursement, option to work away from office, easy to get technical support right away. A "pro" for some teachers: you don't actually like being around kids-well here you don't have to!

Cons

If you enjoy spending a large part of your time on phone and email trying to just get hold of your students and their parents and nagging them, then you might like teaching here. You may only see your student in person once or twice IF they show up to an event at all, but uninvolved educators don't mind that. If you just want a job where you have no creativity and just mentally check in and out each day, then you might like it. But if you are actually passionate and care about your career? Not so much. It is laughable that there were several really glowing reviews right in a row this week- a good bet it's desperate management trying to counter a growing rotten reputation.

Time flexibility. Working with unique, talented, and alternative students.

Cons

The data is extremely overwhelming and in excess. There are so many things that could be done in one click action on the computer vs. 10 clicks. Several things are not linked together, but should be to save hours of time! This time could be spent more wisely helping students on their lessons, which is so needed with online schooling. With the load of students a teacher has, and the limited amount of time we have during the work day because of data requirements, and limited time in live lesson rooms, it's impossible to help students the way you should and like you can in a brick and mortar school, not even close.
