Pros

Good culture and great co workers. My manager was fun and helped me grow and develop. independent and free thinking culture. Car allowance and phone allowance were nice perks. Travel for meetings and dinner with upper management makes you feel important.

Cons

Salary is about $15,000 below market rate. When you get promoted to Credit Manager you have to relocate. It takes time to get paid what you are worth through the profit sharing philosophy. Base pay does not increase. Some older employees are slow and not able to adapt to change.

Thank you very much for taking the time to send us your feedback. The Profit Sharing model that CED utilizes is something we take great pride in. Profit Sharing is a dynamic mechanism that enables CED to reward every eligible employees for their performance, regardless of tenure. As you mentioned, many of our employees have been with us for a long time, and lots of them attribute their loyalty to the feeling of independence and empowerment that Profit Sharing provides. It is especially inspiring to hear our most talented managers talk about the impact that Profit Sharing has had in their personal lives. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not make employment decisions based on age or any other protected characteristic. We do recognize that our 2-3 year training program is a significant commitment for any candidate and we admit that management trainees will not achieve their full compensation potential until their training is complete, once and they have begun to demonstrate their skills as a manager running a Profit Center or Credit Office. However, our investment of time and coaching in each Management Trainee is an enormous value in and of itself. Many find themselves fortunate to have had their management skills carefully cultivated by our company’s time tested training program. We we will take your feedback into consideration. We wish you the best of luck in your career, and we hope that the Credit Management skills that you gained through CED’s training program will serve you well in all your future endeavors.

Pros

Lots of travel, good money, challenging industry, nation wide company open to transfers and moving, flexibility in the training program, excellent professional opportunities after training. Challenging product, and sales strategy with the chance to make a ton of money. Profit sharing structure is a great concept.

Cons

When your recruiter or company contact says, "blue collar" they don't just mean hard work. They mean that their worker base is monolithic. They really struggle with diversity in thought and ideas. Almost no women in the industry. I would describe the culture as non-inclusive. Pre-employment process includes a series of tests--a couple personality tests, as well as a wonderlic (the ones college athletes take to gauge intelligence). These scores are heavily weighted both for your chances of getting hired, and for your position in the company. Employees never see their own scores, although my scores were repeatedly brought up by my superiors as praise and as leverage. Ultimately your scores become a part of your professional identity in the eyes of management. CED doesn't really have a HR structure. The PC managers are the judge jury and executioner. I experienced real problems with homophobia, racism and sexism, with no structure to report or seek guidance.

Thank you for the feedback regarding your experience with CED. We certainly agree that the company offers the training and immense opportunities you described. We regret to hear of the negative impressions you formed of the company’s culture. In line with CED’s entrepreneurial business model, we strive to promote innovation and ingenuity. We seek diversity in our recruiting efforts and we embrace equal opportunity. CED promotes an inclusive culture, and employees are provided with many avenues to report any perceived violations of our policies. CED publishes the company’s hotline number on the company intranet as well as in the various work locations. Employees are also encouraged to report any concerns related to policy violations to their manager or another manager with whom they feel comfortable. Though testing and assessments are utilized as part of our employment selection process, we take a wholistic and comprehensive approach to evaluating applicants in order to select the best candidate for any particular position.
