Pros

Salary can be tempting - until you calculate your hourly rate... Staff are decent people for the most part Free tea and coffee Car park is nice Security guy is friendly

Cons

One of the engineering team leaders has about as much technical knowledge as a turnip, and resorts to barking irrelevant factoids then wobbling his head a lot when an issue arises. Example: Engineer: Server name RS00JTG has stopped responding! Manager: Ohhh no! Argh! Grrrr! *head wobble* First thing; why haven't you done your task list yet?? You're meant to waste time first by writing me a daily list of activities you are planning to do today first! I know as well as you do, that you won't actually get around to doing them since they didn't account for this issue today - but this is still of the up most priority! Preposterous, am I the only one with sense around here?! Anyway I'm too busy writing an email about how some engineer has body odor problems (I'm being serious, this was an actual email). Speak to one of the more competent senior engineers in my team instead. They might know their head from their arse. Don't worry though! I'll come and stand behind them in a few minutes and shriek random unrelated statements in an ape like manner to further consolidate the fact that I was dropped on my head as a child. This is everyday working at CG engineering services. If you appreciate your sanity...don't join. I'm getting out ASAP.

Pros

You will love this job if you are a masochist

Cons

As a new engineer you will be expected to work until 9/10/11pm on most nights and some weekends (you will not be paid for this). If you want these hours work for a bank and get double what Content Guru pay you. The working atmosphere is horrible, the people are unfriendly and unhelpful. They have no support system and you will be met with disgust and impatience if you ask for help. The pay progression for new engineers is slow. They simply will not value you as a person.

Pros

Initial salary is appealing to graduates (this quickly stops being a pro compared to what you can earn in the same industry in different companies).

Cons

After spending a significant amount of time in another company, I still feel compelled to outline the very negative aspects of Content Guru - it has had a hugely negative impact on my confidence, I’m fortunate my new company have worked hard to support me to rebuild myself. To name a few: 1. Toxic culture - from the top to the bottom of the company, the individuals (particularly ‘leadership’) instilled an old fashioned, non-trusting, micromanaging, ‘boys club’ culture. This being the biggest issue, and I don’t foresee the company ever changing its ways. 2. Incredibly non-diverse company. 90% of employees are young to middle age white men, many with the stereotypical attitudes to match. 3. No real HR team, consideration for it’s colleagues or people strategy implemented. 4. Unethical processes and way of running a business 5. Few individuals outlined as ‘golden’ - these individuals (across departments) are offered additional opportunities - not necessarily deservedly. Unless you fit this category, you will not see yourself or career progress.
