Pros

Pleasant overall working environment and facility at global HQ. Very proud of the products they manufacture. Mr. Cook is available.

Cons

Managers inconsistent with paid time off policy. Salary low. Flat structure but you can move up if you have connections with Indiana University staff. Evaluations are subjective...not very beneficial to improvement. No formal employee development program. Be in your seat 5 minutes before you are scheduled to be there...otherwise...upper management will lock you out of the meeting and you'll get a lecture. Will not up your salary unless you earn an MBA.

Pros

Standard benefits package. 401k, medical/dental/vision. Beautiful work environment.: the veneer of a precise work environment. Some of the greatest, most intelligent employees you'll find in the area as they prefer to hire from a stronger talent pool.

Cons

You may read that working at Cook is like working for a cult, and that would be right. But not in the "kooky" or "weird" sense. It's more of a cult of theater... a self-licking ice cream cone if you will. The goal is not progress, but the projecting of the illusion of progress so as to keep the upper management groups ignorant of any issues for as long as possible. After all, the name of the game is for everyone to stay on the take from the Cook family bank vault as long as possible... while the Carl Cook actively looks to preserve as much of the estate as possible. This means downsizing the expensive US labor, and offloading it over to the European sites while keeping the lights on in the US for as long as necessary (think Ellettsville closure). If you question the ends or the means to the ends, you will be broken. And if you can't be broken, you will be pushed out. Wages are also outrageously low for the level of work required. This = exploitation. The annual review process is the most ridiculous review process you will ever see. It truly embodies the "cult" spirit of the workplace. And although there are a lot of great people, there are also some of the worst people you will ever work with as well. We're talking malignant narcissists who thrive in the dysfunctional, delusional environment that Cook has mutated into in the wake of its great leader's death 15 years ago. And because fixing the environment would be an admission of guilt, that will never get fixed. It simply gets worse.

Pros

It still a training ground for the Med device employee

Cons

Their future is not as bright after laying off 500+ people a year and a half ago. They have one product that is selling (ZPTX) but don't have the funds to keep up in the technology in aortic.
