Pros

Unique business model...that's about it.

Cons

Leadership only looks out for themselves. Middle management is incompetent. Technology is old and dying. Employees are pigeon-holed into positions and never get promoted. They claim it's a flat organization but yet they are so top heavy it's a joke. Tech team is packed into basement and other areas of the office like sardines with no personal space whatsoever while executives and directors sit in their ivory tower offices and do nothing relying on the worker-bees underneath them giving them no credit when things go well. But when things go bad, they are sure to call you out on it. And don't expect HR to come to the rescue either...they are most unfriendly group in the company and terrible at communicating. Employees don't even get proper performance reviews and raises and bonus are given out based on popularity and 'fit'. This company is reactive and is always chasing problems vs. being proactive.

Thanks for taking the time to fill out a review. I'm sorry to learn that your experience with Copart thus far has been anything but rewarding. While rapid expansion in staff during 2013 and the first quarter of 2014 required us to obtain additional office space that was not directly connected to our existing floorplan (due to building occupancy), we have invested in ensuring the new work area was consistent with our other work areas, including break room facilities and decor. As staff levels have evened out we have just recently begun a reset of our office space to allow employees more room and improve the workgroup locations to make it easier for teams to interact. If there is an office/facilities issue please be sure to bring it to the attention of Operations and we will see that the issue is addressed. I am very concerned with your feedback on the friendliness and effectiveness of our HR Team as I have high expectations of them regarding service and support that balances the needs of our employees with the needs of the company. If you feel you have been mistreated by any of our HR staff, I would highly value a meeting with you to discuss your concerns and specific observations so we can take proactive action to correct any issues; if the treatment you describe involves me specifically, I would ask that you contact me or, if you would feel more comfortable, reach out to Will Franklin, EVP, to discuss those concerns as I am committed to providing our employees with 5-star service and most certainly do not want me or my team to be perceived as unfriendly or ineffective. I will, however, take issue with your comment regarding performance reviews. Copart provides all employees with an annual performance review as well as annual merit increases for great performance. Managers are to provide the reviews on or immediately following an employee's anniversary date each year and the forms used are openly posted on our intranet site for employees and manager's use. If you have not received a timely review, I would encourage you to speak to your manager or Department Head so they can correct the situation and make sure you are properly recognized for your contributions to the team. Further, you should expect that your manager or supervisor will provide you with ongoing feedback during the year when issues arise or when you do terrific work. Since you noted yourself as a current employee in the review, I invite you to stop by my office at any time to allow us to sit down and talk more specifically about your concerns and provide me the opportunity to show you we mean what we say. My door is always open -- I hope to see you soon. Rory Seidens Vice President, Human Resources Copart, Inc. rory.seidens@copart.com

Pros

This is a strong business with solid growth potential and the ability to expand globally. It is a recession proof business as well. There is a fast pace and decisions are taken quickly - no big committees, just sr. leadership buy in and you can go. The leadership really knows their business from top to bottom which is refreshing - no business school execs at Copart - they can drive a loader!

Cons

Compensation is poor, bonus is not structured and based on sr. leadership's mood about you, all decisions are taken by President and CEO, there is not trust or delegation - even small expenses require presidential approval. There is no planning framework or strategy as leadership runs the place by the seat of their pants and changes directions quickly and not always wisely. There is a good ol boys club atmosphere and if you can get in that club you can make a bunch of money - but its a tough club to crack and only a very few of the top insiders get there - those guys make tons of money.

Pros

Schedule is nice Monday-Friday 8-5.

Cons

Management will lie to you about promotions, they don't have management reviews very often so you never know if you're meeting expectations, training is AWFUL and you will be told 3 different ways on how to do something by 3 different people, they hire outside of the company for promotions, the place is filthy. The office I worked in had a heating and air conditioning system that didn't even work. We had rats that would die upstairs and stink up the whole building.

As a company we offer all employees an annual performance review so that they know how they're doing and so that together the manager and the employee can chart out both professional and personal goals for the upcoming year. While we do hire talented candidates from outside of the company, we are committed to placing only the most talented candidates into roles and and make every effort to attract internal candidates to apply for openings as they become available. We post all openings both internally and externally so that our employees may apply for positions that they feel they are qualified for and are interested in pursuing. Through this process we have had a significant number of employees rise from entry-level workers to senior-level leaders through promotion and professional development opportunities. Our facilities are generally clean and well kept, however from time to time issues do develop and we make every attempt to address such issues quickly and effectively in order to maintain a professional working environment for our employees, our buyers, and our sellers. I am not familiar with the specific incident that the reviewer noted in their comments and therefore cannot speak to how rapidly any such issue was remedied by local management once it was reported..
