Pros

It's a really good, long term job with good benefits, if you enjoy working hard. Usually can be off by 3pm Pay raise every year Good insurance and 401k Have my own delivery truck (not all drivers do) Usually have a set route. Get to develop rapport and relationships with customers.

Cons

If you can handle your route, they will give you more work, and more, and more, and... Unreasonable routes sometimes created, with unusually high demands set on driver, resulting in super long day with no breaks at times. Poor communication between management (transportation department) and driver. Drivers have many supervisors, sometimes unclear of what to do. Management doesn't document liabilities or risks to driver, (including incidents with customers) only issues determined to be drivers fault. (CYA) Trucks loaded inefficiently, no set method. And feedback on correcting them is taken, but rarely implemented. No pay for writing return credits, damage credits, picking up excessive amounts of returns, picking up the slack for other drivers who fail to pick up their empties or returns, excessive wait time for issues out of our control, and more. No pay for these things which can add hours to your day with ease. Sales errors, warehouse errors, routing errors are often expected to be corrected by driver. Customer is always right--even when out of control and asking for unreasonable things. Like parking illegally or unsafely, being disrespected or cussed at.

Pros

The benefits package is very good; medical, dental, matching 401K stock options and decent vacation time.

Cons

This is a traveling salesman role with a time limit; get your orders in by 4:00 everyday or you lose out. This often means you have to start very early and never get a break. Most salesmen don't have lunch. They've converted the position to salaried to avoid having to pay overtime, which is technically illegal.

Long hours and physically demanding , this job is not for everyone . Very early starting times , raging from 2:00 am and 6:00 am depending on where your going.
