Good Entry for a Career in Corrections

Pros

Will hire people without experience, and the salary is quite good for someone with only a high school diploma. After a year with a good record of showing up to work regularly, quality work, and a good attitude, it is easy to apply to the Colorado Department of Corrections to create a long time career with much better benefits.

Cons

You must work a 12 hour shift with mandated overtime. The schedule changes often. The benefits are good, but not great. For example, there is no paid sick leave. If you are sick, you are forced to take PTO, so you don't get it when you really need some time off.

Pros

Having the opportunity of giving encouragement to and keeping hope alive in both inmates and staff in an often dark place to live and work. Excellent pay, hours, and benefits

Cons

I wrote a review in 2019("Perspectives") as a former academic instructor when the education department was eliminated at LPCC. I worked for a CoreCivic competitor and left to return to CoreCivic. I have since worked at two other facilities, and now am again a former employee of CoreCivic(14 years total). Something I've observed at these facilities: Opacity, lack of integrity, lack of transparency, lack of honesty, and lack of empathy and compassion.
