Pros

Bayer MaterialScience typically has the best people in the business. It makes it fun to come to work. The employees are some of the most friendly, helpful, cooperative, dedicated and loyal in the business. The culture and the people together yield in a 'family' atmosphere in essentially every site in the US. Nearly all BMS sites are located in places that provide a very nice place to live (Pittsburgh, PA, Baytown, TX, Newark, OH, South Charleston, WV, Sheffield, MA, Deerfield, MA, New Martinsville, WV) Bayer MaterialScience will be challenged with managing the shift in its current employee age demographics, but are agressively updating talent management strategies as retirement and normal turnover will create significant hiring / placement and promotion opportunities over the next 10 years! BMS is a global company and provides opportunities for foreign assignments for development of top talent. Bayer MaterialScience has one of the best 401ks in the industry, other benefits are competitive or better and salaries are competitive or better. BMS is very focused on performance and quite successful in the US.

Cons

The positives far outweigh the negatives, but to show the complete picture, he only 2 cons I can think of is Bayer MaterialScience is headquartered in Germany (may not be a negative for some) and does not offer stock options.

Pros

Flexible work schedule, very friendly and cooperative colleagues, respectful manager-subordinate relationship, very comfortable workplace, high tolerance to mistakes, encourage training and learning.

Cons

Political and bureaucratic, acceptance of mediocrity, training but not developing people, sacrifice getting things right for not upsetting people.
