Pros

wlb, benefits are great, the company does care a lot for their employees.

Cons

First off, Cox Auto is not a traditional software company. Yes they have products that are software but first and foremost it is about creating value for the dealership ecosystem and so their attitude towards developing software natively here in the US is a secondary concern, and it clearly shows in their management style.. For the last 4 years, senior management has decided that having a massive offshore development footprint makes more sense on top of that every time there is mission critical/time sensitive software project that needs to be done they tap into their pet software consulting firm instead of giving the work to local full time developers. It is now a well-established pattern. Most dev work is now done either offshore or by this consulting firm leaving the talented smart US developer perplexed as to what they are supposed to do with their engineering talent. Maybe it's a tacit signal to the senior devs and architects that you guys are wasting your time here. We got this covered with our offshore India team, consulting firm and huge agile and product team. So if you are a software engineer wanting to actually write "software" and want to see your skills be actually used, you are forewarned.... yes, they keep hiring US engineers, they do. But I ask why??..

Pros

Great benefits and pay, flexible PTO, private company, well-structured

Cons

The DEI thing is lip service. Really unethical behavior, including intimidation and retaliation by middle management. Lots of politics and cover ups protect those who misbehave, while their victims suffer in embarrassment and silence. Lots of good old boys and girls at the top of the organization with fewer credentials than many at the very bottom.
